Alma Hawkins Visiting Chair Lecture 2023
UCLA Department of World Arts and Culture/Dance

In this performance lecture, Harge shares her studio practice in real time. Guided by choreographic scores and performance tasks, she uses improvisational movement, journal entries, storytelling, and sound to share the research and citations present within her artistic practice.

She employs this model as an alternative performer-spectator relationship–side-stepping the inherited spectatorial dynamics of virtuosity and productivity–all so intensely racialized and gendered–to platform process within the context of Black artistic production. The Q&A is led by Zalika Azim.
